Neverness to Everness Standard Selector: Which S-Rank to Pick
Take Jiuyuan or Sakiri first. They fit almost every account, and both stay useful after you pull a limited carry. This Neverness to Everness standard selector guide ranks all six units, explains the 50-pull unlock, and flags the elements the corpus does not actually confirm.

Who should you pick from the standard selector?
Pick Jiuyuan if your account has no main DPS, and Sakiri if you already own a limited carry. Jiuyuan groups enemies and adds healing at E1, so he fills two jobs; Sakiri groups and buffs damage, which every team can use. Baicang and Daffodill are the correct second tier, and Fadia and Hathor are role picks.
The corpus ranks the selector as Jiuyuan ≈ Sakiri > Baicang ≈ Daffodill > Fadia > Hathor. Treat the "≈" as a tie at each tier, not a strict ladder. Which one you take depends on the hole in your account, not on the order alone.
No main DPS yet: take Jiuyuan and clear story with him. Already have Nanally or Hotori: take Sakiri. Already have both: take Daffodill so your Chaos teams have a breaker.
How does the standard selector unlock?
The corpus records one rule: after 50 pulls on the standard banner, you choose one of six standard S-ranks. It does not document a separate free selector at account creation, so treat claims about an immediate free S-rank as [verify].
The selector is separate from limited pity. Spending on the standard banner does not carry into the Scarborough Fair counter, and the choice itself does not consume limited pulls. Plan the 50 pulls before you spend, not after.
Who are the six standard S-ranks?
| Character | Confirmed role | Conflicting element? | Pick order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jiuyuan | Grouping sub-DPS; heals at E1 | No element in the corpus | 1 |
| Sakiri | Grouping + damage buff | No element in the corpus | 1 |
| Baicang | Main DPS | Chaos / Incantation | 2 |
| Daffodill | Breaker | Chaos | 2 |
| Fadia | Tank | No element in the corpus | 3 |
| Hathor | Charge support | Lakshana | 3 |
The corpus confirms Chaos for Daffodill, Chaos/Incantation for Baicang, and Lakshana for Hathor. It does not assign a confirmed element to Jiuyuan, Sakiri, or Fadia. Any guide that labels all three as Anima or Lakshana is filling a gap, not reporting a fact.
What does each pick actually give you?
Jiuyuan — the safest first pick
Jiuyuan groups enemies and works as a sub-DPS, and his first awakening adds healing. That combination removes a team-slot problem: you get crowd control and sustain without spending a dedicated healer slot. For a new account, that is worth more than raw damage.
Sakiri — the pick for an existing carry
Sakiri groups enemies and buffs damage. If you already pulled Nanally or Hotori, Sakiri makes their area damage land on every target in the clump. She is the better pick when the carry question is already solved.
Baicang — the standalone damage pick
Baicang is a Chaos/Incantation main DPS. He is strong on his own but wants a team built around his damage window; taking him when you already have a carry leaves one of them benched.
Daffodill — the breaker
Daffodill is the Chaos breaker, and the corpus describes her as the only Chaos-attribute shield breaker. If you plan around Lacrimosa, Exe, or any Chaos shell, she is the piece that makes the team function.
Fadia and Hathor — role picks
Fadia is a tank and Hathor is a Charge support. Neither fixes a missing carry. Take one only when your team already has damage and the missing piece is survival or Charge energy.
What should you do after the pick?
- Level the chosen unit to the current ascension gate before building a second carry.
- Give the unit the first Arc Disc you can ascend; see the gear guide.
- Build around one adjacent element, not four unrelated attributes.
- Save limited pulls for a rate-up banner with a 90-pull guarantee in reach.
- Re-check the tier list after the next patch; standard units do not change, but their ranking does.
For the full roster, use the character database. For team shells, read the team comp guide. If you have not started yet, the beginner guide puts this pick in the first-session order.
FAQ
Which standard S-rank is the best pick?
Jiuyuan or Sakiri, depending on your account. Take Jiuyuan if you have no main DPS; take Sakiri if you already own Nanally, Hotori, or another carry.
When do you unlock the standard selector?
After 50 pulls on the standard banner. The corpus does not document a separate free selector at account creation.
Is Jiuyuan a healer?
He is a grouping sub-DPS whose first awakening (E1) adds healing. He is not a dedicated healer at E0.
Which element is Sakiri?
The corpus does not confirm Sakiri's element. It confirms her role as a grouping damage buffer, so build her for the slot rather than for an assumed attribute.
Should I take Daffodill over Baicang?
Take Daffodill if you plan a Chaos team and need a breaker. Take Baicang if you need a standalone carry and do not own one.
